Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care

The CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care prepares experienced early childhood educators to take on greater responsibility within regulated education and care services. You will develop advanced skills to design and implement curriculum, support children’s learning, development and wellbeing, and contribute to the effective operation of an early childhood service.

The qualification focuses on applying specialised knowledge in practical workplace situations, maintaining regulatory compliance and supporting effective teams. Graduates may work in long day care, family day care, preschools and kindergartens, with opportunities to take on more senior responsibilities within the sector

To complete the CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, students must complete a minimum of 280 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia. Students must also complete the Auctus Work Placement Record throughout their placement.

Students are encouraged to arrange their own placement with a suitable early childhood education and care service where possible. If a student is unable to secure a placement independently, Auctus will provide placement support by liaising with suitable services and industry partners.

Vocational placements are generally unpaid.

Placement Requirements

Before commencing placement, students must:

• Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
• Meet any additional screening requirements required by the placement service
• Complete the required National Child Safety Training before undertaking any placement hours
• Complete any required child protection training applicable to the placement service
• Meet any workplace health, safety and service specific requirements
• Have reliable transport to attend scheduled placement shifts

The National Child Safety Training is separate from the units of competency within CHC50125 and is now a mandatory requirement under the Education and Care Services National Law.

Additional Service Requirements

Individual placement services may also require students to:

• Provide evidence of required vaccinations
• Complete site specific orientation or induction
• Comply with the service’s policies, procedures and workplace health and safety requirements
• Meet the service’s roster and attendance requirements

Students undertaking placement must be entered into the National Early Childhood Worker Register where required by the placement service or applicable regulatory requirements.

Important Information

1. Placement availability: Placement cannot be guaranteed at a particular service, location or schedule and depends on service capacity, student availability and completion of all placement requirements.
2. Placement approval: All placements must be approved by the Auctus Placement Coordinator before commencement and an appropriate placement agreement must be completed.
3. Placement commitment: Once placement has been arranged, students are expected to attend all agreed shifts unless there are genuine extenuating circumstances.

In additional to normal student training and assessment product support, Auctus team is ready to support our students to ensure that all our students can achieve their goals. We will, when required, facilitate access to a range of additional learning and wellbeing support services for individuals participating in any of our training programs.

These services are provided with utmost privacy and confidentiality. Some of these services are undertaken in-house whilst other more specialist services are outsourced on a commercial referral basis.

Additional support service areas include:

• Academic support (provided in-house): Students requiring additional academic support should discuss their needs with our trainers or see our Student Support Officer or Training Coordinator who will assess the type and level of support needed and offer support as appropriate.
• Payment planning (in-house)
• Access to language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) support (provided externally)
• Reasonable adjustment and disability access support (provided in house and/or outsourced referral)

• Success and Wellbeing Services (SWS) include counselling for vocational, emotional, financial and psychological needs (provided via external referrals)

   Our student support team can refer a student for counselling by completing a form which includes student information and consent for referral. 

   Students can also refer themselves directly to the Success and Wellbeing Services (SWS) provider by using the contact details provided above.

   Please note that SWS services are predominantly for South Australian subsidised students. 
    

Digital Wellbeing Support (MOST App)

Auctus is proud to share an additional wellbeing resource available to our students — MOST (Moderated Online Social Therapy).

MOST is a free, evidence-based digital mental health and wellbeing platform that provides young people aged 12–25 with confidential support they can access anytime, anywhere.

Through MOST, both domestic and international students can access:

• Evidence-based wellbeing tools and guided activities
• Real-time moderated peer support
• Resources for coping, motivation, and study stress
• Professional counselling referrals if needed
