This course requires satisfactory completion of 120 hours of work placement. Placement begins after you finish your course theory, so you step into the workplace feeling confident, skilled and fully prepared.

Your placement is organised for you

We guarantee a placement opportunity for you. Our dedicated Placement Coordinator will work closely with you to organise and schedule everything, placing you with respected employers across Adelaide. Your location is considered when selecting a workplace, and while every effort is made to place you close to home, you should be prepared to travel around 30 to 45 minutes if needed.

    How placement is completed

    • Placement is full time, Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 4:00pm. These hours are set and not negotiable.
    • Placement is completed during normal business hours only, not on weekends or after hours.
    • You will need to plan for a 3 week consecutive block, just like a real job.
    • Placement is mandatory and must be completed by a set due date, following straight after your course. Extensions are only granted in exceptional circumstances and require approval.

Already working in aged care or disability support?

You may be eligible to use your current employment and workplace experience as evidence towards the 120 hour placement requirement. Our Placement Coordinator will review your current and previous industry experience and advise whether your workplace can be used, or if additional placement hours will be needed.

    Before your placement

As a prerequisite for work placement in the aged care sector, employers require you to:

    • Obtain DCSI clearances, which include Working with Children's Check, NDIS Worker Check and aged care sector clearance
    • Complete first aid and manual handling courses
    • Complete online modules such as infection control
    • Have a full South Australian drivers licence and own a reliable car

Most employers also have vaccination requirements such as flu or COVID 19.

Note: All placements must be approved by the Auctus Placement Coordinator before they start. A placement agreement will be signed by Auctus, the employer and the student, and students are expected to uphold it unless there are extenuating circumstances, which will need to be evidenced. If a student fails to start the placement as scheduled and the Coordinator has to reorganise it, students may be charged a $500 fee.

In additional to normal student training and assessment product support, Auctus team is ready to support our students to ensure that all our students can achieve their goals. We will, when required, facilitate access to a range of additional learning and wellbeing support services for individuals participating in any of our training programs.

These services are provided with utmost privacy and confidentiality. Some of these services are undertaken in-house whilst other more specialist services are outsourced on a commercial referral basis.

    Additional support service areas include:

    • Academic support (provided in-house): Students requiring additional academic support should discuss their needs with our trainers or see our Student Support Officer or Training Coordinator who will assess the type and level of support needed and offer support as appropriate.
    • Payment planning (in-house)
    • Access to language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) support (provided externally)
    • Reasonable adjustment and disability access support (provided in house and/or outsourced referral)
    • Success and Wellbeing Services (SWS) include counselling for vocational, emotional, financial and psychological needs (provided via external referrals)

For external referrals, we work closely with two SWS providers. They provide services through their SWS coaches who can be reached out using the following contact details:

    Digital Wellbeing Support (MOST App)

Auctus is proud to share an additional wellbeing resource available to our students — MOST (Moderated Online Social Therapy).

MOST is a free, evidence-based digital mental health and wellbeing platform that provides young people aged 12–25 with confidential support they can access anytime, anywhere.

Through MOST, both domestic and international students can access:

    • Evidence-based wellbeing tools and guided activities
    • Real-time moderated peer support
    • Resources for coping, motivation, and study stress
    • Professional counselling referrals if needed

Learn more or sign up: https://www.most.org.au

(MOST is available nationally for students aged 12–25 and supported by the Australian Government.)

If your training is subsidised, the South Australian Government pays part of your course fees for you. The money goes straight to your training provider, so you can focus on your training. You will be required to pay only the co-contribution.

You may be eligible for subsidised training if you live or work in South Australia, and you are:

    • an Australian or New Zealand citizen
    • a permanent Australian resident, or
    • an eligible visa holder

Yes, employment status does not impact your eligibility to access government subsidised training.

No, you do not need to hold a concession card.

Every learner studying in a nationally recognised training organisation must meet the criteria which includes completing the Language, Literacy and Numeracy and Digital (LLND) assessment as part of the requirements to access Government subsidised funding for each course they enrol in. Subsidised funding cannot be accessed without the completion of the LLND assessment. The LLND assessment is also aimed at checking if students meet foundation skills requirements for the qualification.
