The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40116 is the latest nationally recognised accredited qualification for workplace trainers and vocational trainers or assessors, which was released on April 6, 2016.
All RTOs have to apply to Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) to add TAE40116 to their scope. There is no indication how long this process might take, as the scrutiny for this qualification is more rigid than in the past to improve the profile of the qualification in the industry. In addition, the trainers and assessors delivering this qualification will need to hold a Diploma of Training and Assessment.
TAE40116 course was not available until the beginning of 2017 since no RTOs were approved to add this qualification to their scope. A new qualification is out but very few organisations at this stage are able to offer.
TAE40110 was superseded by TAE40116 in April 2016. The transaction period for enrolling and completing TAE40110 runs out in September 2017. As not many RTOs have TAE40116 on their scope, the TAE40110 is the qualification offered by most registered training organisations at the moment.
The scrutiny for new TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is more rigid than in the past to improve the profile of the qualification in the industry. Some of the key changes identified in the information provided on training.gov.au are as follows: the language literacy and numeracy becoming a core component of the qualification, the development of assessment tools, delivery of training in front of a minimum group of learners for group training, and minimum requirements for sufficiency of competency demonstration in some of the units.
As this is a critical qualification to providing training and assessment to various industries the expectations around integrity of delivery and risk it presents have been raised.
In addition to the changes to receive the qualification, the trainers and assessors delivering this qualification will need to hold a Diploma of Training and Assessment.
Two new core units were added to the new Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40116:
TAEASS502 - It is a Diploma level unit aimed at developing skills and knowledge required to design and develop assessment tools used to guide the collection of quality evidence, including their application in formative, summative recognition of prior learning (RPL) assessment
TAELLN411 – The unit is designed to develop skills and knowledge required of a vocational trainer or assessor to identify language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skill requirements of training and the work environment, and to use resources and strategies that meet the needs of the learner group. TAELLN411 is currently delivered as part of TAE40110 course as an optional elective unit to help you prepare if you wish to look for a TAE40116 upgrade in the future.
To prepare for it, you can:
It will help you to upgrade your qualification in the future – You’ll only require some doing gap training instead of completing the entire course.
